About us · Our story

Why we carry the name Cairo.

Guided by faith. Defined by compassion. Committed to the legacy of every life.

In Scripture, Egypt is where the Holy Family found refuge in a time of need, and tradition places their shelter in what is now Old Cairo. That is the heart of our calling: to be a place of refuge, comfort and peace for every patient and family we serve.

Help is available by phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Veteran owned · Family owned

Rich JohnsonFounder · U.S. Air Force veteran

Rich began his career in the United States Air Force. A wish to serve others is what drew him there, and it's what he built his life's work around after he came home.

Cairo Hospice is still veteran owned and family owned. Rich's belief that care is a form of service shapes how we show up for every family: when you welcome us into your home, we come ready to serve you with the same respect.

Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame · Class of 2024

In November 2024, Rich was one of twenty Ohioans inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame, which honors veterans for what they give their communities after their military service.
