Hospice care · Ohio, Indiana & Pennsylvania

Comfort that honors life, wherever you call home.

At Cairo Hospice, we believe that every moment matters, and every life deserves to be lived with comfort, dignity, and peace. Hospice is a different kind of medicine: it focuses on quality of life for people facing a life-limiting illness, and it supports their families too.

Help is available by phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Who comes through your door

A whole team, around the whole family.

Questions families ask

No question is too small.

What happens at a free consultation?

It's a conversation. We visit your home, or talk by phone if you'd prefer. We explain what hospice is and what it isn't, answer your questions, and listen to what matters most to your family. You decide what happens next.

Who pays for hospice?

We accept Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance and private pay, and we verify your benefits for you. Our nurse will explain what is covered for your family.

Do we have to go through a doctor first?

No. Patients and family members can call us directly. A physician certifies eligibility, and we coordinate that with your loved one's doctor.

How do we know if it's time?

Some signs families notice:

  • More hospital stays or ER visits
  • Treatment is helping less
  • Eating less, sleeping more, losing weight
  • Needing help with bathing, dressing or walking
  • Pain or shortness of breath that is hard to control
  • You’re doing your best, but it’s getting harder to manage alone

If two or more of these sound familiar, call us. Hospice is for people with a serious illness who want to focus on comfort and on making the most of each day, and your doctor and our team can help you decide when the time is right.

Can my loved one keep their own doctor?

Many families worry about this. We work alongside your loved one's doctor.

Where does hospice happen?

Wherever your loved one lives: at home, in a nursing facility or in assisted living.

What support is there after a loss?

When your loved one passes, we don't disappear. Our bereavement specialists and chaplains stay in touch, check in on your family and help you through grief in the months ahead.

What if we change our minds?

Hospice is a choice, not a final contract. You can stop hospice, and your usual Medicare coverage resumes.
