Our standard
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2, Level AA.
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) are the international standard for accessible websites. We aim for Level AA of version 2.2, the most recent. We test every type of page with automated tools and check keyboard use, focus, zoom and reflow by hand, and we fix what we find.
We believe the site partially conforms: most of it meets the standard, and the limits we know about are listed below. The site hasn’t yet had an independent audit.
What we do
How this site is built to be used by everyone.
Keyboard and focus
- A “Skip to main content” link on every page
- Every link, button, menu and form works with a keyboard alone
- A clear ring shows where you are as you move through a page
Screen readers
- Pages are built with headings, landmarks and lists in a logical order
- Links, buttons and form fields have names that match what you see
- Images that carry meaning have text descriptions
Reading and colour
- Text and controls meet WCAG contrast ratios
- Text can be enlarged to 200% without losing content
- Pages reflow to a single column at 320 pixels wide, with no sideways scrolling
Motion and timing
- Animations are turned off when your device asks for reduced motion
- Nothing plays sound or video on its own
- No part of the site times you out
Known limits
Where the site still falls short.
We’re honest about what isn’t right yet. If any of these gets in your way, call us and we’ll help another way.
PDF documents
Some downloadable notices and guides are PDFs that may not work fully with screen readers. Each notice is also set out as a web page, and we’ll gladly send any document in another format.
Older articles
Some articles carried over from our earlier website may have images without full descriptions. We’re reviewing them and fixing what we find.
Other websites
We link to resources on other sites, such as Medicare and Google Maps. We can’t control how accessible those sites are.
Online forms
Some of our online forms are still being connected. If a form doesn’t work for you, please call us and we’ll help over the phone.
Tell us
Something hard to use? Let us know.
If you can’t reach something on this site, or need information in another format such as large print, tell us the page and what went wrong. We’ll get back to you and, in the meantime, give you the information another way.
About this statement
We reviewed the site against WCAG 2.2 AA with axe-core and by hand, on desktop and phone screen sizes. We’ll review it again as the site changes.
